The effects of cuts across local government have been keenly felt by library services up and down the UK, with local authorities earmarking hundreds of libraries for closure and many more under threat from cuts to opening hours and staff pay and conditions. However, despite being seen as a ¥soft target for cost-cutting measures, the threats to the public library service have galvanized people from all walks of life to fight to keep their local library open.Campaigns are happening at a local level nationwide, and UNISON is proud to support the range organisations and individuals involved in this tireless work.
