Local government

UNISON provides negotiating and bargaining support for our 850,000 members who work in local government. This includes people working for local councils, schools, voluntary organisations, housing associations, the probation service and private companies.

Social care:
(18/03/2010) The government has set up a pilot scheme to test the idea of local authorities being able to contract out social work services for children in care to private social work practices.

Social care:
18/03/2010) There is a chronic problem in the UK with violence and threats against staff working in social care. This problem needs to be taken more seriously because of its major implications for service delivery. Threats and assaults contribute to stress, ill-health, sickness absence and high staff turnover.

Youth and community workers:
We are outlining suggested options for the JNC pay claim for 2010, as proposed by UNISON's National Youth and Community Workers' Committee.

Craft workers:
Craft Workers will receive increases of between 1 - 1.25% on pay and 1% on allowances for 2009/10.

Youth and community workers:
The Trade Union Side of the JNC has accepted the Employers' pay offer 2009. Circular LG/9/2010 outlines the result of the consultation process and, attached to the circular, are the new salary figures.

Housing:
Housing News is an electronic bulletin for all housing workers.

General local government:
Local government unions, UNISON, GMB and UNITE, representing 1.6 million workers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, have today been told that their members face a pay freeze in 2010/2011.

Meat hygiene:
In the interested of public health, Meat Inspectors should be permitted to trim areas of contamination from carcasses.

Social care:
(16/12/09) Personal Care at Home - A consultation on proposals for regulations and guidance (England only)
