UNISON provides negotiating and bargaining support for our 850,000 members who work in local government. This includes people working for local councils, schools, voluntary organisations, housing associations, the probation service and private companies.
(14/05/2013) UNISON local government service group has produced a part-time workers survey as part of the local government Part-Time Matters campaign. We are using the survey to find out how much members/non-members working part-time in local government have been affected by cuts or unequal treatment. This survey needs to be distributed as widely as possible. The closing date is Monday 15 July 2013 (14/05/2013) UNISON has launched a new vision document ‘A Better Start for Young People’ that sets out why young people deserve a better deal in education, employment and support services, and our vision for giving young people a better start in life Ex-MHS employees of the food standards agency - URGENT action needed to protect your pensionable pay. On the 6 March 2013 there was a debate in Parliament about the problems faced by homecare workers in their jobs. MPs articulated the problems that UNISON homecare members have been raising for years and talked about UNISON's own work in this area. UNISON has been negotiating hard to quell the panic of some Housing Associations about providing decent pensions to their staff in their retirement. The introduction of auto-enrolment of staff into pension schemes; changes made by the Social Housing Pension Scheme; and fluctuations in the scheme valuations have led some employers to consider downgrading staff pensions from final salary or career average schemes, to poor “defined contribution” schemes.
