NHS England learning plan welcomed

UNISON has welcomed a new Learning for Life programme for NHS workers in England.

The campaign has been launched by the NHS Social Partnership Forum (England) to raise awareness and encourage learning and skills development for all NHS staff. It is strongly supported by all the NHS unions.

“The NHS trade unions give their full support to the workplace learning campaign,” NHS joint union chair and UNISON head of health Christina McAnea said today.

“We know that when staff have access to good quality appraisal, learning and skills training, and are properly equipped to undertake their job, this has a positive impact on the patient experience and the quality of health outcomes.

“This campaign will encourage employers and trade unions to work together to promote learning for all staff, particularly those in the lower pay bands.

“It will help to ensure that staff have the right skills for the job and the confidence to act in the patients’ best interests.”

The campaign supports the role of union learning reps, and makes the business case for the benefits of workplace learning and the positive impact on patient care.

A campaign toolkit with supporting information, a model workplace learning agreement, resources and case studies is available on the social partnership forum website.
