New research shows that adult social care is the greatest pressure on council finances.
Research by the Local Government Information Unit included responses from 131 councils in England and Wales which showed that adult social care was the greatest immediate priority for more than half of all councils.
The research also found that 94% of the 131 councils are intending to put up council-tax bills, with their finances at “breaking point”.
A worrying 13% said there was a danger they would no longer have enough funding to fulfil their statutory duties in the coming year.
