UNISON has clear policy on Palestine and the Middle East peace process as set out in several National Delegate Conference (NDC) motions over the past few years. UNISON supports both an independent Palestinian state and the right of a secure Israel to exist. Western Sahara

Western Sahara has been called Africa’s last colony. It was illegally occupied by Morocco in 1975, after the Spanish withdrew, in defiance of the United Nations which recognised the right of the people of Western Sahara to self-determination. more..

Saddam's anti-union laws revived

(08/08/07) In another twist on the future of the oil industry in Iraq, Saddam's government Decree 150 banning unions in the public sector has been revived to stop oil workers organising. The oil unions have issued a statement deploring the actions.

(18/07/07) The International Transport Federation has revealed that Mansour Osanloo (recently in London to speak to trade unionists at the TUC) was abducted when he returned to Iran after his trip to Europe. It is now known that he is the notorious Evin prison near Tehran.

National conference calls for stronger links with PGFTU

(25/06/07) At UNISON's national conference in Brighton this month, the union called for stronger links with colleagues in Palestine by setting up twinning agreements, developing capacity building projects with the PGFTU and inviting delegations to the UK.

Conference further agreed to raise the issue of Palestine with UNISON's international partners with the aim of suspending the EU/Israel Association Agreement and by calling for a UN arms embargo on Israel. more..
