Transfering to the National Probation Service or a DFP

This webpage provides information to all UNISON members working in probation, and to non-union members who wish to join UNISON, on the staff transfers which are due to take place on 26 June this year.

There are three separate staff transfers taking place:

  1. The majority of staff working for the Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs) will transfer to the National Probation Service (NPS). Advice and guidance for members in this group can be found here: Information on the CRC to NPS transfer
  2. Other CRC staff will transfer to one of the Dynamic Framework Providers (DFPs) which have won bids to run a range of probation services. Advice and guidance for members in this group can be found here:  Information on the CRC to DFP transfer
  3. Some staff working for CRC parent companies, or CRC sub-contractors, transfer either to the NPS, or to one of the DFPs. Advice and guidance for members in this group can be found here: Information on the CRC parent company subcontractor to NPS DFP transfer

If you are changing employer as part of these changes and you are not already in a trade union, UNISON is here to support you in the transition to your new career, whatever your role. Join UNISON now to protect your interests in the transfer and to look after your pay and conditions.

Maintain your UNISON Membership after transfer

When you transfer to the NPS or a “Probation Provider” on 26 June 2021 the way you pay for your UNISON membership will change too.

If you pay for your UNISON subscription through a salary deduction, as shown on your payslips, when you transfer to the NPS or a “Probation Provider”, you will need to switch to paying by Direct Debit to remain a UNISON member. This will be a regular payment from your bank account, and the amount you pay remains the same based on your salary.

All you need to do is log in to our secure website, MyUNISON, and complete a Direct Debit bank instruction. We will not collect a Direct Debit payment until 30 July 2021. Until then, your current employer will process your subscriptions as usual.

If you’ve not used MyUNISON before, you will first need to register. You will need your membership number, if you don’t have this you can get it from your Branch or UNISON Direct on 0800 0 857 857. You can also contact UNISON Direct to set up your DD Instruction if you prefer.
