Shipha Begum says the best thing she’s done through UNISON is take part in a training course to build confidence skills for young women. “It was an amazing course and I met some wonderful new people,” she enthuses.
Shipha is one of over 5,000 members who developed their skills by taking part in a course through UNISON last year. Is 2017 the year you build your confidence? Or perhaps it’s the year you improve your IT skills? Or maybe learn about mental health – to support both yourself and others.
Whatever it is you’re going to tackle this year, consider doing it through UNISON. We have a vast array of courses available, and we offer bursaries for courses run by other organisations, including the Open University.
There are courses that will help you improve your maths, get better at dealing with paperwork, help you tackle change and uncertainty at work, and move your career forward.
UNISON’s learning reps, branch education officers and regions have worked hard to put together our 2017 education programme, and they’re always adding new courses to the menu – some branches even run flower arranging and hairdressing courses.
As Jane Eyre, a branch education officer from Blackpool said, “if they want something, we find it for them.”
How to find the right course for you
Take a look at the learning section of our UNISON website to discover more.
Talk to your branch union learning rep or education officer. If you’re not sure who that is, contact your branch to find out or look on your regional website for further details about courses running in your region.
Still not sure if you should get involved in a UNISON course? Shipha said that doing the course made her realise that UNISON is “the most rewarding and supportive network to be a part of –you’ll never feel alone.”
Come and be part of it!
