Refugee Christmas appeals

Five ways UNISON branches and members can support refugees this Christmas

Branches and activists have asked for union advice on how they might offer practical solidarity and support to refugees this Christmas.

The UNISON NEC and president Wendy Nichols have endorsed the following five organisations, which branches or individuals might consider supporting.

They are working on help for the the immediate emergency and long-term practical support.

Refugee Action…

… is running an emergency appeal, and union bodies or individuals can donate.

It has also launched a new crisis project to help asylum seekers and refugees in crisis who are facing imminent homelessness and hunger.

Doctors of the World…

… an organisation which provides vital medical services in refugee amps across the world, including in Europe. Find out more and donate.

The Refugee Council…

… is currently running an appeal to free child refugees from detention centres in the UK as part of the continuing support for refugees it provides year after year. Find out more and donate.

City of Sanctuary…

… encourages practical ways for ordinary people to show solidarity with refugees in their own communities, through a grassroots “culture of hospitality”.

Women for Refugee Women…

… focuses on discrimination experienced by refugee women, their current Set her Free campaign is on the treatment of women in detention centres.
