UNISON members are being urged to contact their MPs and get them to back the union’s One Team healthcare campaign by signing up to an Early Day Motion in Parliament.

The motion, tabled by Labour MP and former UNISON president Dave Anderson, ties in with the union’s campaign to highlight the vital work carried out every day in our NHS by staff working in support services.

Titled One team for Our NHS, EDM501 calls for recognition of the essential work carried out by support staff in helping our NHS achieve high standards of care and patient experience.

It says these workers need to be properly valued and refutes the artificial divide between “frontline” clinical services and so-called “back office” support services.

It points out that health managers are under constant attack and highlights the importance of staff who dispense medicines, maintain equipment, order medical supplies, book appointments, pay bills, manage computer systems, clean, cook and do the laundry.

A number of MPs from various political parties have already signed the EDM and UNISON is calling on members to get as many MPs as possible to support the motion and campaign – and has provided a model letter for them to use.
