UNISON postpones Gwalia strike action

UNISON has announced that the strike action that had been due to take place 6 May at Grwp Gwalia has been postponed.

The decision has been taken in order to minimise risk to Gwalia services users. An alternative date for strike action will be announced shortly.

Lynne Hackett, UNISON regional organiser, said:

“UNISON members working for Gwalia take their responsibilities very seriously.

“Michael Williams, the Gwalia chief executive, had initially indicated that they would be able to maintain the services without the input of UNISON members during the strike day, but in fact this is not the case.

“UNISON members are clearly disappointed that they are not going to take strike action next week, but they have maintained that the safety of service users is paramount and have therefore decided that the only responsible option is to postpone the strike action.

“This just goes to show the commitment that our members have to the service that they provide, and strengthens their campaign to be treated and paid fairly.

“We will be meeting with the employer next week and look forward to announcing a new date for strike action.”
