Help save the equality duty

UNISON is urging members, their family and friends, and supporters to sign a new petition to protect the public sector equality duty from the government’s so-called war on red tape.

The duty requires public bodies to promote equality and eliminate discrimination.

“We need to fight any attack on this,” said general secretary Dave Pentis. “The public sector equality duty is not a luxury.”

UNISON is part of the #savetheequalityduty campaign, because the union believes that the duty supports the effective, efficient, transparent and fair delivery of public services that meet people’s different needs.

This section is about young members equality. UNISON young members group is for members who are under 27. Our young members group works with other parts of the union to encourage recruitment, organisation and participation of young workers. The group also provides a powerful voice for young members and the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge.

This section is about equality for disabled members. Our disabled members’ group works with all parts of the union to fight discrimination and prejudice and campaign for improved workplace accessibility.

Age discrimination

Retired members equality

This section is about retired members. Our retired members group works closely with other parts of the union on almost every issue that affects workers in the UK, as well as fighting for quality public services, on which many older people rely.

Nearly half a million UNISON members work in health care in the NHS and for organisations providing NHS services. We work to improve terms and conditions, highlight issues that will affect all workers, ensure workplaces are safe and challenge discrimination.
