UNISON responds to inflation rate high

Commenting today (Tuesday) on inflation hitting its highest level in nearly four years, UNISON general secretary Dave Prentis said:

“The soaring cost of living is hitting public sector workers hardest.

“Thousands, including nurses and teaching assistants, are struggling on low wages. The government must end the public sector pay cap now.”

Notes for editors:
– The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has said the Consumer Price Index (CPI) measure of inflation reached 2.9% last month, up from 2.7% in April. This is the highest level since June 2013 when the CPI also reached 2.9%.
