This week sees the launch of the new UNISON branch support and organising fund to help branches.

The fund has been created as a result of the branch resources review motion that was passed at last year’s special delegate conference and has been set at £3.45 million in 2022, to be shared between 12 regions. Two percent of national income each year will be set aside for the fund.

Branches and regional bodies can bid using an online form for different types of support to grow the union and take on local organising challenges. The NEC has provided guidance on the types of bids allowed and all decisions will be made at the regional level by a committee of lay members.

The regional pool has been closed and the balances have been passed to regional fund accounts. The national campaign fund continues to be open for branches to bid for extra support for more political and campaign focused activities.

General secretary Christina McAnea said: “The new branch support and organising fund is an exciting way to get the right resources out to branches, so they can deliver on the issues that affect their members.

“It’s also a great opportunity for branches to work together, where they have common employers and common problems.

“I’m so proud of the work that everyone has put into making sure this bold commitment to our members becomes a reality.”
