Health staff pay increase in Northern Ireland

Statement from UNISON Northern Ireland head of bargaining and representation Anne Speed

The announcement on Friday by the minister for health that she will implement the recommendation of the pay review body and increase pay to health staff by a consolidated 1% is not new news.

The previous health minister Simon Hamilton made this announcement before the election and that decision is simply being implemented.

UNISON now invite the Health Minister, Michelle O’Neill to commit to the implementation of a real living wage for the lowest paid workers in the Northern Ireland Health Service.

We also call on her to address the pay deficit which still leaves workers in Northern Ireland the lowest paid in the whole of the NHS compared to health care workers in England, Scotland and Wales.
