Cuts are destroying youth services across the country, local government conference hears

Delegates commit union to campaign for quality youth services as part of broader fight to save local services

“Youth services across the country are being destroyed by cuts,” youth worker Dave Rees warned today.

“The impact is clear for all to see,” he told delegates at UNISON’s local government conference in Brighton this morning.

“Young people do not have the opportunities they used to have,” he added, so “it is harder to engage youth.”

Mr Rees was speaking on behalf of the local government service group executive as he moved a motion committing to the union to campaign for “high quality youth services, provided by local authorities with full funding from central government” as a key part of the union’s overall “Save Our Local Services” campaign.
