UNISON campaigned long and hard for universal free school meals and welcomed their introduction for infants in 2014.
There had been reports in the media in recent weeks that the government was planning to abolish the scheme.
Following pressure from UNISON and our campaign partners, the Prime Minster was forced to say that the government would not be scrapping fee school meals funding for infants.
However, the policy is still at risk as the government has since said it is “under review”.
