Vote yes to keep our campaigning voice

There are just two weeks left to vote in favour of the union’s campaigning voice in the political fund ballot, which closes on 30 November.

The vote is something the law says we need to do and UNISON is urging members to vote ‘Yes’.

As general secretary Dave Prentis says: “The political fund allows us to have a voice – a voice that stands up for our members and the public services you provide.

“That’s why we need members to vote ‘Yes’ in November’s ballot on whether to keep it.”

When you hear the words ‘political fund’, you could be be forgiven for thinking it’s all about the Labour Party or politics as defined in Westminster, Holyrood, Cardiff or Stormont.

But the question facing members when you vote in the political fund ballot is about a lot more than that – and a lot of it around day-to-day, bread-and-butter questions.

Remember, this vote is not about about whether individual members want to pay into one of the union’s political funds or affiliate to a political party yourself – it’s about making sure that all members have that choice.

The ballot opened on Saturday 1 November and voting papers were sent out with your copy of U magazine in late October to members in England, Wales and Scotland. There are different fund  arrangements in Northern Ireland.

If you have not received a ballot paper – or you’ve lost it – you can get a replacement by calling the ballot helpline at UNISON Direct on 0800 0 857 857. Lines are open 6am-midnight Monday-Friday and 9am-4pm Saturday.
