Northern Ireland survey seeks views on childcare

A charity in Northern Ireland wants to find out what parents in the region think of childcare provision.

Employers For Childcare is a campaigning charity that encourages employers to implement family-friendly policies in the workplace.

It wants to find out more about the experiences of parents – the issues and challenges they face – so that it can campaign for better support. Its aim is to help parents with dependent children get into, and stay in, work.

The 2014 survey asks about experiences of arranging care for children and about the challenges parents face when it comes to employment.

Last year’s survey revealed that over 50% of families in Northern Ireland are now relying on grandparents or other family members to help with childcare.

Further research found that 63% of managers and senior officials ended their maternity leave early because of career concerns.

And of particular concern, 46% of parents were forced to reduce their working hours or drop out of work altogether because of the cost of childcare.

Everyone who completes the 2014 survey in full will be entered into a prize draw to win a £1,000 Ikea voucher.
