Police staff pay claim lodged

UNISON and the other Police Staff Council unions for England and Wales have submitted a pay claim to the employers for a pay increase of 3% or £500, whichever is the greater, from 1 September 2014.

The unions are also calling for a 3% increase in stand-by payments.

The claim follows consultation with UNISON members and comes in the context of police staff pay having fallen by between 11% and 13% in value since 2010.

The union says that decline is having a very real and detrimental effect on the living standards of hardworking and conscientious police staff.

National officer Ben Priestley says: “If the pay claim is to be successful, UNISON will need to mount an effective campaign with the active participation of police staff members.”

UNISON police staff branches have been invited to a meeting in May to develop the union’s campaign strategy.
