UNISON comments on Mid Staffs review

Following the  special administrator’s review into Mid Staffordshire NHS trust, UNISON West Midlands regional organiser Ray Salmon said: “At first glance, the Mid Staffordshire NHS trust administrator’s review is better than was once expected for the community of Staffordshire, because those communities will continue to benefit from the delivery of health services at both Stafford and Cannock hospital sites.

“It is pleasing that the community has been listened to and the commitment and dedication of the trust’s professional team of hardworking staff, who have managed to turn things around over recent years, has been recognised.”

But, said Mr Salsmon: “The review contains proposals that will shift health services across a number of main hospital sites over a wide geographical area, affecting both healthcare workers and patients.

“The depth of impact will be felt more deeply by some than others and immediately we recognise that in support of these proposals, the ambulance service, which is already currently over stretched, will require significant sustained investment.

“We welcome the continued consultation and will be compiling our recommendations in the best interest of patients, staff and the local community.”
