UNISON signs recognition agreement with Norse group

UNISON general secretary Dave Prentis has signed a recognition agreement with Norse.

The Norse Group is wholly owned by Norfolk county council but run and managed independently of the public sector. It employs around 11,600 people and is made up of Norse Commercial Services, Norsecare and Norse Property Services.

UNISON regional organiser Brian Lynch explained: “They’re a genuine example of best practice for the private sector, they have a 100% staff training and development programme; 99% business retention; good staff morale (staff turnover is less than half the industry standard) and a commitment to the community they serve.”

Mr Prentis said: “Norse group pays national terms and conditions on any contract that is TUPE transferred and is working towards paying the living wage.

“Crucially, in this time of high youth unemployment, Norse runs an apprenticeship scheme with 54 apprentices earning £11,300 a year learning new skills and with a guaranteed job at the end.”
