UNISON, the UK’s largest union representing social care staff, today
welcomed the draft codes of conduct for nationally agreed standards for
social care workers calling them a “step in the right direction”.
UNISON Head of Social Care Staff, Owen Davies (email owen.davies@unison.co.uk), said :
“Despite the crucial and valuable work of social care staff they continue to
have low status and are grossly undervalued in the current system. These
draft codes of conduct should play an important part in improving the
standing and professionalism of all those working in social care and we
welcome them as a step in the right direction.
“However, in order to live up to these proposed standards you need proper
training and you can’t get a well qualified, quality workforce on the cheap.
“We now need to study the draft carefully and consult with our members on
any changes or additions we would like to see incorporated.”
