This election will be about the future of our public services

Theresa May has promised repeatedly that there would be no general election before 2020. Today, we have further proof that you can’t trust a word that the Prime Minister says – something which the British people will have to bear in mind every time she makes another false promise during this election campaign.

At a time of unprecedented national and international uncertainty, the Tories have thrown country into a snap general election – but that gives the people an opportunity to have their say about the future of our country.

As Britain prepares to leave the EU, this election will be about the future of our public services, and the austerity agenda that the Tory Party has unleashed upon those services for the past seven years. They cannot and must not be given a renewed mandate for further cuts and axing our rights at work.

Labour now has an opportunity to show that it is the alternative government our country needs, fighting and winning for working people everywhere.
