Academies - defend your school

All schools in England are being encouraged by the government to become academies. Academies are schools with no local links to the community or local council, but funded by the taxpayer.

UNISON has grave concerns about the fragmentation and privatisation of our school system and is firmly opposed to the academies programme. Instead, we believe in good, local schools that are part of a national comprehensive education system and which are accountable to local communities.

What to do if your local school is thinking of becoming an academy:

If you are a parent: If you are a school governor If you care about education
