New research: what do healthcare assistants think about 12-hour shifts?

Are you a HCA and do you, or have you ever, worked 12-hour shifts?

UNISON believes that this is an important issue where members have a range of opinions and experiences.

Many factors can affect whether 12-hour shifts are positive or negative for staff and for patient care.

NHS England is conducting research on how HCAs think 12-hour shifts impact on  job satisfaction and ability to provide quality care.

Interviews

They want to conduct some anonymous interviews over the phone, and they are looking for healthcare assistants in a wide range of healthcare settings: acute trusts, mental health trusts, community services, care homes and hospices.

If you are willing to help, please email imhevaluationteam@nottshc.nhs.uk with some suggested dates so the research team can find a convenient time to call you. Or you can call them on 0115 748 4298.

If you would prefer to talk to someone at UNISON first please email h.pile@unison.co.uk.

Workshops

The researchers are running four free workshops – healthcare assistants and 12-hour shifts – open to HCAs in NHS and non-NHS settings.

You will receive a certificate of attendance for your continued professional development record and £20 to cover travel costs.
