UNISON calling on Lords to protect NHS bursaries for student nurses

Today’s debate in the House of Lords is the last chance to ensure the NHS can continue to support and recruit student nurses.

UNISON head of health Christina McAnea said: “Thousands of current senior NHS nurses have benefitted from the NHS bursary and the risk of losing it would simply end up costing lives. Many have already said they could not afford to train without the bursary.

“Today, the Lords have the power to send a clear message to the Government that bursaries should be reinstated so the NHS can continue to train and recruit enough nurses.”
