Local government conference remembers Grenfell Tower

Minute’s silence, collection and statement form the branch, as last week’s fire casts its shadow over delegates

Local government delegates raised more than £1,369.13 to help the survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire this afternoon, after it conference opened with a minute’s silence for those who died in the tragedy.

Vice president Carol Sewell (above) read a statement from the Kensington and Chelsea branch, which told of “distraught” members’ efforts to help, working throughout the days and into the nights.

The branch also paid tribute to the “unprecedented response from the whole community”.

Conference extended its solidarity to all those involved.
