UNISON expresses serious concern over the ‘unjustified’ transfer of 438 staff at RNIB

UNISON has today expressed serious concerns over the ‘unjustified’ transfer of 438 staff in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland from the Royal Institute for the Blind (RNIB) to Action for Blind People.

The union has been in talks with RNIB about the proposals and fears the changes could be implemented from September.

UNISON national officer Simon Watson said: ‘The major changes at RNIB are a serious concern and very little has been done to reassure them.

“The fact that the proposal came with no real explanation means staff and service users feel very uncertain over the long-term future of the service and their jobs. There is also a risk the union may not be able to properly protect staff after the transfer.”
