Working to get the vote out

Dave Prentis is joining thousands of other UNISON activists volunteering to get the vote out in the final week of the election campaign.

“This is the most important election for a generation. We all need to play our part in getting the vote out – especially among union members,” says the UNISON general secretary.

And he has been putting those words into practice in key marginal constituencies – including Thanet South today and Brighton Kemptown tomorrow.

In Thanet – where UKIP leader Nigel Farage is trying to get elected to Parliament – Mr Prentis was out canvassing voters.

He pressed home the message that we need to replace “the most right-wing Tory government we have ever seen”.

And he stressed that the even more right-wing UKIP and its populist leader were no alternative.

They offer no solution to the NHS, job security and cost-of-living crises that are making life so difficult for ordinary people, he said.

Brighton Kemptown is a marginal seat, which was won by the Conservatives in 2010 with a majority of 1,328.
