UNISON is urging members to take part in a Christmas carol sing up for local government pay on 18 December.
For three years, local government workers have suffered a pay freeze, while many conditions have also been cut at local level.
Head of local government Heather Wakefield said: “Local government pay is now worth 10% less than it was in 1997.
“That’s why we’re campaigning for a better deal – because you’re worth it.”
And as part of the campaign, 18 December has been designated as Strike a Chord for Local Government Pay Day.
The union has produced some NJC carols and would like branches and regions to organise carol singing on the day.
Ms Wakefield continued: “You could sing at lunchtime or after work, at your council offices, in your local high street or station, so that you can tell the public about our campaign. And remember to let us know what you’re doing.”
