UNISON is supporting the Labour party’s opposition day debate to repeal the bedroom tax on Tuesday 12 November.
Although Labour has promised to repeal the tax if they are elected in 2015 the union believes we can’t wait until then to end the tax.
National officer Allison Roche says: “The mounting misery and hardship being caused to tenants, added stresses on housing workers and financial impact on landlords and councils are not a price worth paying for a policy which is unworkable, unfair and self defeating.
“If Parliament voted to scrap the bedroom tax the misery faced by thousands of people would end now and those affected would not have to wait until 2015.”
