UNISON commits to finding a solution for National Grid pensions

UNISON representatives from across National Grid met with the company to hear more details about proposed ways forward on pensions.

UNISON is committed to getting an agreement which protects the defined pension benefits of members going forward, despite National Grid’s claim that the current arrangements are unaffordable.

“UNISON does recognise that challenges lie ahead,” commented national officer Matthew Lay.

“We are asking for an improved defined contributions pension offer and we are clear that without this, no agreement can be reached,” he added.

“This represents the best – and possibility only – chance to improve the defined contributions scheme so that it does not leave members facing a very uncertain time at retirement.”
