Serco signs single union recognition deal with UNISON

UNISON has signed a single union recognition agreement with SERCO in respect of the Canterbury City Environmental Services contract which includes refuse, street cleansing and grounds and buildings maintenance.

The agreement follows detailed discussions about establishing a constructive relationship between UNISON and Serco in the interests of the service and the workers that provide it.

This places UNISON members on a stronger footing in negotiating on future pay and conditions arrangements for the contract. A change to the service specification has given rise to the need for operational changes, and harmonised terms and conditions are being discussed, including pay increases for those on inferior terms and conditions.

“Discussions with SERCO management since the contract was awarded have been very constructive and this agreement underpins a positive industrial relations ethos within this operation” said Zoe Van Dyke, regional organiser in the South East. “SERCO’s approach to the industrial relationship with UNISON on this contract has been very encouraging.”
