Portsmouth dock workers secure pay deal

UNISON members at MMD Shipping Services in Portsmouth have voted to accept a 2% pay increase.

Management at the council-owned company agreed the rise, which is on basic pay only backdated to 1 September and covers the period to March 2013.

UNISON regional organiser Yvonne Cleary thanked Chris Pickett from the branch for all his hard work on the campaign.

She also noted that the success illustrated a recognition of the workers’ strength of feeling and determination, as the union and management now return to negotiations for a deal to follow this one.

MMD was bought by Portsmouth city council, which owns Portsmouth International Port, in 2008.
