UNISON open letter to Camarthen and Llanelli Assembly candidates

UNISON Cymru/Wales, the largest public sector union in Wales, has today (27 April) called upon Carmarthen and Llanelli Assembly candidates to publicly support an alternative economic strategy.

Jeff Baker, UNISON regional organiser, said:

“We know that there is an alternative way to manage the UK deficit that would not equate to the savage spending cuts that we are currently experiencing.

“You only need to look as far back as the TUC demonstration that took place in London in March, to see how strongly people feel about protecting their public services.

“The turnout from Llanelli and Carmarthen for that demonstration was huge and we want to make sure that this public strength of feeling is not just written into the history books without a second thought.

“That is why we have asked Assembly candidates in Carmarthen and Llanelli to publicly support an alternative economic strategy and stand alongside us in defending public services.”
