UNISON LAUNCHES HOTLINE TO COMBAT RACISM IN THE NHS

Nurses and other NHS workers are being urged to crackdown on racism by reporting any incidents to a UNISON hotline being set up today (12 September). The hotline will enable NHS staff to get help, support and advice if they experience racism at work from patients, their relatives, other staff or the public. Members of the public or patients who call in with complaints will also be directed to a broad network of self-help organisations and race equality councils where they can get support.

A recent survey of nearly 2,000 black, minority and ethnic (BME) UNISON

members working in the NHS, found that 69% had experienced some form of

racism at work.
