UNISON Support Demand For Probe Into Claims That Labour Plans To Cushion Marginal Seats From NHS Cuts

UNISON supports the initiative of NHS Together in writing to the Secretary of State for Health, Patricia Hewitt, to ask whether claims in The Times newspaper that Health Ministers and Labour Party officials secretly met to discuss the political impact of hospital closures were true.

The letter asks whether the claims of the meeting are true what was its purpose. It also asks whether political considerations were the driving force behind revelations about hospital closures and service reconfigurations made on 13 September by David Nicholson, NHS chief executive.
