UNISON General Secretary, Dave Prentis, visiting Wales today (11
February, 2004) will call on the Welsh Assembly to honour its
commitments to end the two-tier workforce across the public
services.
The two-tier workforce, whereby people employed after a public
service is contracted out to the private sector are paid less and
have inferior conditions than those transferred with the contract,
has been outlawed in local government in England and Wales.
Since the union negotiated the deal with the Westminster
Government, it has continued to press the case for it to be
extended across all public services.
Dave Prentis, speaking to a conference in Cardiff of senior
UNISON officials representing members across Wales, will say:
