Bands Line Up Against Racism

Alabama 3 heads the line up of bands at Manchester Apollo on 26 April supporting the UK’s largest union UNISON, in conjunction with the TUC, in its Unite Against Racism campaign. Tickets prices have been pegged at £6. Doors open 7pm, concert starts 8pm. The line up includes:

Alabama 3 – a frenzy of technobilly, lunacy, roots country, hip-hop, dub gospel politics and excess. They provide the theme music to Channel 4’s ‘The Sopranos’.

Chumbawamba – tub-thumping anarchists from Sheffield with their bizarre and eclectic sound.

RDB (Rhythm Dhol and Bass) – award-winning blend of bhangra, house, garage, Hindi, RnB, hip-hop and ragga.

Un-Cut – spacey breakbeats and swooning vocals (Manchester band).

The concert will be preceeded by a march through Manchester and a rally in Albert Square at noon.

UNISON General Secretary, Dave Prentis, said:

“It’s important that we stand up against the racists and the dangerous myths they peddle to play on people’s fears. Asylum seekers are portrayed as scroungers or, even worse, terrorists. And we know that isn’t true.

“We must defend our way of life – a way of life which is enriched by a culturally and racially diverse society. And a way of life which welcomes and applauds the contributions made by refugees and migrants. Everyone should have an equal human right to prosper.

“And we think it’s important through music to celebrate that cultural and racial diversity. We hope many thousands join us to show the racists that we are united against racism. No them and us.”
