UNISON response to codes of practice for social care workers and employers

UNISON, the largest union in social care, today welcomed significant revisions to the codes of practice for social care workers and employers, particularly a re-balancing of the duties of employers and workers.

UNISON had expressed concerns that in the draft codes, the burden of responsibility had fallen unfairly heavily on the workers.

UNISON today also welcomed the clause that it will be the duty of employers to have “systems in place to enable social care workers to report inadequate resources or operational difficulties which might impede the delivery of safe care”.
