UNISON RESPONSE TO LOCAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYERS PRESS RELEASE

Responding to the local government employers proposal that a minimum of £5 an hour could be part of a solution to the pay dispute, UNISON National Secretary for Local Government Heather Wakefield said:

ÒThe local government employers will have to put more money on the table at tomorrowÕs Acas talks if they are serious about settling this dispute. 750,000 council workers went on strike last week in an overwhelming rejection of the employers 3% offer.

ÒWe have always been willing to negotiate and are interested to hear what the employers have to say.

ÒUNISON is seeking justice for those earning less than £5 an hour in local government. We need to see the entirety of the comprehensive solution the employers have press released today.Ó
