Short -Term Funding

Conference
Police Staff Conference 2004
Date
1 March 2004
Decision
Carried

Conference notes the continued short-term funding for police staff for initiatives such as PSCOs and Custody Officers. Conference also notes that the short- term funding for Volume Crime Investigators is soon to run out.

The reluctance of the Home Office to recognise that successful initiatives should be permanently funded is unacceptable. Continuance of this stance is not conducive to long-term planning or job security. Conference is concerned that discontinuance of this funding will require the decision whether to remove the service or ‘rob Peter to pay Paul’ in order to fund it.

Conference instructs the Service Group Executive to:

1)raise this issue with the APA and ACPO and agree a joint approach;

2)in partnership with the APF/GPF campaign for continuance of the funding;

3)increase the lobbying of the Home Office and the Scottish Executive to secure long-term funding.
