Police Staff Conference 2004
Date
1 March 2004
Decision
Carried

Conference welcomes the renaming of the Police Support Staff Council as the Police Staff Council (England and Wales) and the enhanced role of the Council enshrined in the revised PSC Handbook. Conference also believes that Home Office admission to the Council will improve the status and effectiveness of the machinery.

However, Conference is concerned that the Police Staff Council (PSC) is in danger of not realising its new potential because of lack of resources at Joint Secretarial Level. Conference notes, in this context, that the PSC Trade Union Side’s agreement to Home Office admission to the machinery was conditional on a joint review of the resourcing of the Council.

Conference believes that the PSC must find the resources to enable it to fulfil its new enhanced functions. Conference therefore endorses the claim which has been submitted to the Home Office for full time secondment of the Chair and Vice Chair of the PSC Trade Union Side to undertake PSC duties.
