Police Staff Conference 2004
Date
1 March 2004
Decision
Carried

Conference notes with concern the lack of guidance and advice for branches relating to health and safety issues for police staff.

More and more of our members are becoming ‘front-line staff’ yet information on health and safety for police specific issues is rare.

The police service is going through many changes and branch resources are stretched to the limit to keep up. Frequently health and safety has to take a back seat as work is prioritised and re-prioritised.

Health and safety is a priority and should remain so. With appropriate advice and guidance to branches it will.

Conference instructs the Service Group Executive to:

1)draw up an action plan to provide support for branches;

2)raise the profile of health and safety within the Service Group Executive;

3)in partnership with UNISON’s National Health and Safety Unit produce regular updates for Police specific Health and Safety issues;

4)organise a Police specific Health and Safety Seminar for branches;

5)report back to the 2004 Police Staff Seminar on progress made.
