UNISON employs around 1,200 people across the UK and has more than 1.3 million members. But we rely on volunteer activists for much of the support we offer. Without them UNISON would not be able to function.
Workplace reps
Our volunteer workplace reps play a vital day-to-day role in helping UNISON members. They help members by giving advice and answering questions; organising meetings; acting as spokespeople; recruiting new members; running ballots; and publicising campaigns.
Official branch roles
Some members are elected by their workforce to play different branch roles. Branches must elect certain core officers. They may also create other posts according to their rules. Officers are elected either at the AGM or by postal ballot beforehand.
