RCN indemnity scheme changes – UNISON reaction

Commenting on the news that the RCN is changing its members’ indemnity scheme, Christina McAnea, UNISON head of health, said:

“We have spoken to senior officials at the RCN about these changes and need time to examine the rationale behind the decision. In the meantime, our professional indemnity insurance stays in place which gives protection up to £1m.

“It should, however, be crystal clear that employers are responsible for ensuring that their staff are covered. As more private companies are being encouraged by the government to tender for NHS services, we have ensured that those companies are contractually bound to take on the responsibility to provide insurance indemnity for transferred, new and existing staff.”
