UNISON warns against cutting corners on health and safety

“Don’t let your employers cut corners with health and safety” when contracting out public services.

That was the message from UNISON head of health and safety Tracey Harding when she addressed health and safety managers at a conference in Pontefract, Yorkshire, at the end of last month.

She reminded her audience that “you may be able to contract out the work, but you can’t contract out the responsibility,” adding that “keeping services in-house is often best for the safety of service users and workers”.

Remind your employers to actively think of health and safety when procuring services – it’s safer for everyone.

And to make the message visible, you can use the UNISON poster Don’t cut corners with health and safety (stock no 2943), which can be ordered from our online catalogue.
