UNISON secures two-year pay deal for mining museum members

UNISON members at the National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield have voted unanimously to accept a two-year pay deal.

The employer, a not-for-profit organisation, proposed a 1% pay increase in April. But following what UNISON described as “constructive and positive” negotiations, the union developed and submitted a counter pay claim worth more than double what was originally on the table.

The board of trustees agreed to the UNISON pay claim on 21 June and, following full consultation and a member ballot, UNISON members voted unanimously to accept the following offer:

  • 1% for 2012/13 backdated to 1 April 2012;
  • a further 1% for 2013/14 backdated to 1 April 2013.

UNISON is the largest union in the community and voluntary sector, with more than 60,000 members.
