2022 National Retired Members Conference
Date
27 June 2022
Decision
Carried

Conference recalls the resolution of last year’s retired members conference, Ageism in a Covid Age (Motion 13 as amended.) The resolution called upon the Retired Members National Committee (RMNC) to work with the National Executive Council (NEC), Self-Organised Groups (SOGs), Young Members Organisation (YMO) and others to try to ensure that ageism is given priority in UNISON’s work, similar to that given to other equality issues and it expressed conference’s belief that the Retired Members’ Organisation has a role to take up ageism as an equality issue, across UNISON structures.

Conference notes that the NEC’s Equality Liaison Committee provides a regular opportunity for lay members representing SOGs and YMO to raise issues with the union’s leadership and with each other. It is one of the ways each of these groups takes up respective equality issues across UNISON’s structures and of ensuring SOG’s and YMO’s work programmes are linked to the union’s current objectives and priorities. Conference would like the Retired Members Organisation to have similar opportunity.

Conference instructs RMNC to seek representation on the Equality Liaison Committee, its representatives to be retired members appointed by RMNC with due regard to proportionality and fair representation.
